In 2018 The Alaskan Scottish Club brought women professional athletes to the games. The Alaskan Scottish Club was one of the first to host in the US to do so. The best in the world came to Alaska. This year The Alaskan Scottish Club will be showcasing both Many of the athletes will break world records again during the Alaska Scottish Highland Games.

During the day, the professional athletes will compete with over 100 amateur athletes in all the traditional events: the caber toss, stone throw, weight over bar, challenge stone, and the grueling Farmer’s walk. The Sheaf Toss has been added this year and is sure to be a real crowd pleaser. A 28# bale of hay is thrown for height. Attendees will enjoy shopping at over 90 vendors with unique wares, traditional Celtic food (Scotch eggs anyone?), and fun activities. And of course, cheer on your favorite team during the Tug ‘O War.

Any who attend the Games will also enjoy: Celtic dancing, Scotch Tasting General & Education Sessions (tickets are still available - but it will sell out!), musical concert performances by the award winning “The Fire.” The gathering of the clans is bigger than ever this year with 15 clans registered - so come and discover your heritage at one of their tents.

Joan Massart-Paden, President of The Alaskan Scottish Club has this to say about this year’s games: "Thanks to the slavish devotion of many, this will be the best games on record. Set in a stunning backdrop of majestic mountains, the 38th annual Alaska Scottish Highland Games will orchestrate 6 professional Men and 6 professional women champions in the highland athletic games. The eery and haunting skills of the pipes and drums will float thru the air, reminding us of years gone by. Thousands of Alaskans and visitors will be milling their way thru the multitude of vendors, enjoying a gorgeous day with tons of activities such as the kilted mile, children’s games and viewing the highland coo and Birds of Prey."
