Identity, Inc., Alaska’s leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) advocacy
and education organization, announces that members of its board of directors, and chairs of Anchorage PrideFest, were recently featured in an Orbitz campaign entitled #Rewarded.
Orbitz contacted Identity in March, looking to reward a "small town Pride" team with a trip to Miami Pride.
Shelby Wilson, JJ Harrier, and Chris Barraza, all members of Identity's board of directors and committee chairs of the Anchorage PrideFest committee, flew round-trip to Miami to experience how Pride is done in a larger metropolitan area. The three talked to Miami Pride organizers about event planning techniques and took part in their April 7 Pride Parade.
"We are thrilled Orbitz wanted to do this piece about our little Pride," said JJ Harrier, outgoing co-chair of Anchorage PrideFest. "To experience the large scale love and appreciation of Miami's LGBTQ community was amazing and something we'll never forget!"
Anchorage PrideFest is a program of Identity, Inc. and runs from June 22 to 29 at numerous venues, including the Delaney Park Strip on June 29. Over the past seven years, Anchorage PrideFest has grown substantially and was recently voted the “Best Off-the-Beaten-Path LGBT Destination” by Farandwide.com.
This year's Pride theme is Breaking Boundaries and celebrates 50 years since the Stonewall riots in New York.
