With next year being a presidential election year the Democratic Party is gearing up to take on President Trump. So far, they have twenty four candidates and counting who want to get the chance to go up against President Trump. Of the candidates who have announced, so far, there is one who stands out and that candidate is Joe Biden. He is the man that the Democratic Party should nominate to take on President Trump and there are several reasons why.

First and foremost, Biden has a wealth of experience that will be of great service to the nation. He served for over eight years as vice president and helped then President Obama develop policy for that administration. He served in the Senate for decades with over six terms under his belt and in that time chaired two major policy committees. The first was the Senate Judiciary Committee where he held hearings on nominees to the Supreme Court as well as the lower level federal courts. He was also instrumental on this committee in the crafting of what would become the Violence Against Women Act.

The other committee was the Senate Foreign Relations Committee where he dealt with confirmations for positions at the Dept. of State as well as other aspects of foreign policy. The second reason that Democrats should nominate Biden is he is the only candidate they have who can appeal to blue collar workers in the states Trump won in 2016. Thirdly, he has put forward a campaign message based around unity and returning the nation to some kind of normalcy given the chaos of the Trump Administration. But for these, and many other reasons, he he will not get the Democratic Party nomination. In the last decade the radical left of the Democratic Party has been gaining ground and the most recent example of this was the candidacy of Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primaries. Since that time, and with Democrats taking back control over the House of Representatives, the emerging leaders of that caucus have been members like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. This wing of the party and its spokesmen in Congress have a radical vision to remold American government and society along the lines envisioned by George Bernard Shaw and other Marxists of the early 20th Century.

The policy proposals they are putting forward have no chance of passage and would be economically disastrous if they were to pass. Those candidates in the primaries, such as Kamala Harris and Corey Booker, who have endorsed and actively promoted extreme policies like the Green New Deal are doing the best. When it is all said and done, the candidate who will win the primary is going to be the candidate who took the hardest left wing positions.

And that candidate will lose the general election because the blue collar workers in states like Ohio and Pennsylvania that Trump carried are not going to endorse those policies. If Democrats want a shot at the White House they need to endorse a candidate and a message that will win more than New York and California. They won’t and that is a shame because Joe Biden is a great candidate and one who can give them a shot at getting the White House and to build on the electoral success they had in 2018.
