Rick Steiner and I have known each other for a long time. We're not close friends but we're both strong advocates for Alaska's wolves and other wildlife. That's what makes his off-target critique of my Gordon Haber remembrance especially baffling and deeply disappointing. To accuse me of a "tabloid takedown" and "character assassination" is to completely misread and misrepresent both the story and my intent. Defending Haber's legacy is one thing, but Steiner's criticisms here are misdirected and hardly show an open mind.
On a different but related note, I'd like to thank celebrated Alaska wildlife photographer Johnny Johnson for his photos of Gordon Haber; credit for Johnson's photos was inadvertently omitted from the "Lone Wolf" cover story.
