Dr. Al Gross, the independent candidate endorsed by the Alaska Democratic Party to run against Alaska’s junior U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan announced on Wednesday that longtime Alaska legislator Johnny Ellis has joined his campaign team as Senior Adviser.
A resident of Anchorage since 1975, Ellis served as an Alaska State Senator from 1993-2017 and as a State Representative from 1987-1993. During his time in the Senate, Ellis served as the Majority Leader from 2009-2011 and was crucial in building the campaign arm of the Alaska State Senate.
Also on Wednesday, the Gross campaign announced Mindy O’Neal as the campaign’s Fairbanks political coordinator.
“Our campaign team is growing – both our staff and our volunteers,” Gross said in a press release. “Mindy O’Neal and Johnny Ellis bring extensive experience to our team and will be crucial to our long-term success in 2020. We’re excited to have them aboard.”
The Gross campaign also announced that so far their candidate has raised $2,000,000 with nearly $1,500,000 cash on hand.
“We have demonstrated an ability to put together a campaign that can win in 2020,” Gross said in the release.
