Supporters of the Recall Dunleavy effort march their votes to the state elections office on Thursday.

Recall Dunleavy supporters gathered today to submit 49,006 petition signatures to the Division of Elections for review, completing the recall application phase.

“Today’s numbers speak for themselves. A record number of Alaskans from different backgrounds and all corners of the state have come together to send the same message: Governor Mike Dunleavy is the wrong man for the job, and Alaskans aren’t willing to sit by and watch as he devastates the economy and our state,” said Meda Dewitt, Chair of Recall Dunleavy.

The Division of Elections will now review all submitted signatures and verify that Recall Dunleavy has submitted at least 28,501 signatures from qualified voters, or 10% of the total votes cast in the last general election. The Division must also approve or deny the legal grounds of the recall application.

Today Recall Dunleavy also announced its legal team, which includes current counsel, Scott Kendall, as well as former Attorney General Jahna Lindemuth, and well-known trial and appellate attorneys Jeff Feldman and Susan Orlansky.

“The Recall Dunleavy legal team is very confident that the application contains a sound legal basis that will be upheld in Alaska’s courts,” said Scott Kendall. With respect to the timing of the Division of Elections’ review of the application, Mr. Kendall stated that, “Based on the relevant statutes and the agency’s practice for the last 15 years, we expect to receive the Division’s decision within 30 days. Accordingly, we’ve asked to be notified of that decision no later than October 7, 2019.”
