Grammy-winning and Alaska-raised Portugal the Man has confirmed it will be special guests at a rally organized by Save our State and University of Alaska Anchorage students that encourages Alaska lawmakers to override $444 million in state operating budget vetoes.
The rally will take place at the Alaska Airlines Center on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus this Tuesday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m. and is free to the public. Organizers urge Alaskans to show up to demonstrate their support to override the Governor’s vetoes.
Recent proposed vetoes threaten to eliminate several valuable programs and resources that are vital to the Alaska economy, community and culture.
“These vetoes do not reflect the common values of Alaskans, and the time is now to stand together. I’m counting on everyone that can, to show up and demonstrate that they care about our families, our neighbors and our futures,” said Alaska Children’s Trust Executive President and CEO Trevor Storrs. “The Governor is putting in jeopardy our most vulnerable populations, the statewide economy and the shared values of Alaskans and it is important that we empower our legislators to make the right choice and override these vetoes.”
