AK4AK – a virtual music festival featuring more than a dozen local performers – will entertain Alaskans on Fri., May 1, 2020. The event is being sponsored by Matson, TOTE Maritime Alaska, AFL‐CIO Alaska, the Building & Construction Trades Council of Southcentral Alaska, and MTA. While the performance is free to all viewers, AK4AK will encourage concertgoers to support Food Bank of Alaska.
AK4AK was inspired by the amazing response by Alaskans as they hunkered down and made significant sacrifices to flatten the curve of COVID‐19 cases in the state. Organizers Showdown Productions and Christopher Constant are building a concert stage at the Port of Alaska small boat harbor and broadcast quality videography to stream performances at www.ak4ak.com and live on Facebook at Facebook.com/showdownalaska.
“This is a perfect way to bring Alaskans together as we hunker down in Anchortown and across the state,” said Christopher Constant. “We chose the Port of Alaska as our venue because it’s the most important facility that moves critical food and supplies to Alaska’s communities. It’s also a way to thank the many shipping and port workers who are the unsung heroes keeping food on our tables.”
AK4AK performers include Blackwater Railroad Company, Medium Build, H3, DJ Spencer Lee, Emma Hill and Spenard Song Circle with Ava Earl & Jaybird Parkhurst and more. Special guests will include Mayor Ethan Berkowitz and others.
AK4AK will be pre‐recorded and will debut online at www.ak4ak.com and on Facebook starting May 1, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. and will end at 10:00 p.m. Alaska Standard Time. The recording will continue to be available online following the event.
