At 1:10 PM on April 1, 2020, Anchorage Police responded to the 1000-block of W 30th Avenue in reference to a large disturbance taking place outside wherein someone fired a shot. The vast majority of the people involved had left the area prior to police arrival. While officers were speaking with an adult female who was seated inside a truck in the parking lot of the apartment complex, another woman exited the building. That second female, later identified as 39-year-old Zayha M. Meehan, matched the description of the person who had fired the handgun.
While speaking with Meehan, a witness approached an officer and produced photos they had taken with their cell phone. The photos clearly showed Meehan holding a handgun while outside with several others. Other witnesses independently verified what the first witness had said. A computer check of Meehan revealed she is a convicted felon and therefore is not allowed to be in possession of the firearm. It was also discovered that Meehan had an outstanding felony weapons-related warrant.
39-year-old Zayha M. Meehan was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on her warrant. She was also charged with Misconduct Involving a Weapon III - Felon in Possession and Reckless Endangerment.
There were no injuries.
