On 3/24/19 at 3:51 p.m., Officers with the Patrol Division responded to the intersection of Old Glenn Highway and Coronado Road in Eagle River in reference to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision involving two juveniles.
The preliminary investigation found that a male juvenile and female juvenile were riding their bikes on the sidewalk of the Old Glenn Highway when a silver 2014 Subaru drove onto the sidewalk as if it were making a lane change. The vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed and struck both juveniles head on. Both juvenile victims were still conscious and breathing when medics arrived. They were immediately transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Several witnesses remained on scene to give statements to police.
The suspect driver of the Subaru remained on scene; she has been identified as 60-year-old Vicie Zielinski. After officers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), Zielinski was arrested and charged with OUI.
A full Traffic Investigation is being conducted in the area. All westbound traffic is blocked off on the Old Glenn Highway between Park Place Street and Coronado Road. Please avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
