At 4:30 AM on Monday, August 26, 2019, an off-duty officer driving his patrol car initiated a traffic stop on a 2008 silver Ford Taurus that was driving at a high rate of speed on the Glenn Highway near S Birchwood; the vehicle sped past the officer. The vehicle did not yield and the off-duty unit discontinued the pursuit. The officer notified Dispatch of the attempted stop.

Minutes later an on-duty sergeant clocked the vehicle driving 101 mph on the Glenn Highway which is a posted 65 mph zone. The sergeant initiated a traffic stop on the Ford at the McCarrey overpass at which time the driver complied. When officers made contact with the driver, identified as 40-year-old Ryan P. Brannon, they saw signs of impairment. The officers also saw Brannon’s elementary-school-aged child in the front passenger seat.

Brannon was transported to the Anchorage Jail and remanded on the charges of Operating under the Influence, Eluding, Reckless Endangerment, and Child Neglect. A representative from the Office of Children’s Services responded to the scene and picked up Brannon’s son. There were no injuries.
