At 1:11 AM on May 24, 2020, Mid-Shift Officers with the Patrol Division and medics responded to a residence on the 300-block of Irwin Street in reference to a shooting.

The preliminary investigation found that there was an altercation amongst a group of adults inside the residence that turned physically violent; at one point, shots were fired. All the adults are acquainted with one another. After the shooting, the male suspect fled the scene accompanied by a female. One adult male victim was declared deceased at the scene as a result of a gunshot wound to the upper body. Another male was transported by medics to the hospital with life-threatening injuries as a result of a gunshot wound to the upper body. While the motive is still under investigation, Officers have cause to believe this is an isolated event. Homicide Detectives have responded to the scene to further investigate.

During the course of the investigation, an Officer with the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit (IDEU) came into contact with the suspect vehicle on 5th Avenue. The male suspect driver and the female passenger have been detained without incident and are being questioned by detectives.
