Update at 11:30 PM:

At 10:23 PM on Thursday, July 25, 2019, Anchorage Police responded to reports of a crash in front of the Brother Francis Shelter.  Initial indications are that an adult male driver was heading westbound in a Ford F150 when he struck an adult female in the roadway.  The driver did not stop; the person driving in a vehicle behind the Ford called police while following the suspect and providing Dispatch with location updates.  Both the Ford and the witness eventually pulled over in the area of 5th and Juneau; police arrived moments later and detained the suspect driver.

The adult female victim was declared deceased at the scene.  The dynamics of the collision, including who had the right-of-way, are still being determined.  The road closure remains in effect for processing.

The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Anchorage Police are investigating a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash on 3rd Avenue that occurred at 10:23 PM.  All of 3rd is shut down between Post and Ingra while the scene is being processed.  Please avoid the area.
