It's time to show up and stand up for our state! It's time to do all we can to stop a government shutdown. A statewide shutdown will happen on July 1 if the governor does not act on the operating budget that was passed by a majority of house members and all senate members. If the governor does not take action before July 1, a government shutdown will occur causing harmful economic impacts – costing thousands of dollars in cashed out leave, layoffs, delayed projects, and lost talent. Alaskans and visitors to Alaska could be affected in numerous areas including ferry services, road construction projects and delays, DMV services, obtaining hunting and fishing licenses, Medicaid health services, and more. In addition to the impending government shutdown, pink slips are currently scheduled to be sent to thousands of state employees on June 14 because the Governor has not yet accepted the operating budget recently passed by the Alaska Legislature.
Save Our State is hosting rallies in Juneau, Anchorage, and Fairbanks to demonstrate that Alaskans will not stand for a government shutdown. If the governor enacts the budget before the rally dates, rallies will still take place to celebrate our legislators and governor keeping Alaska open for business. We need to demonstrate to the governor that we will not stand for a statewide shutdown. Save Our State, as a coalition of organizations, invites all Alaskans to bring their best signs and Alaska state pride to show the governor that we want to keep Alaska open for business!
