Anchorage Participates in International Winter Bike to Work Day Bike Anchorage teams up with local organizations to fuel bike commuters
Winter Bike to Work Day is happening this Friday, February 8th from 7am - 9am. Organizations will be set up around Anchorage to provide food and encouragement to winter bike commuters. This event celebrates dedicated winter cyclists and those considering winter cycling for the first time. To stave off the chill, burn barrels will be available at Eastchester/Woodside Park and Westchester Lagoon. This will be the tastiest Winter Bike to Work Day ever with bacon, biscuits and gravy, donuts, and coffee available to bike commuters.
“Winter Bike to Work Day is a really fun event. There’s food, music, and friends, all before you arrive for work on a Friday. It’s also a great chance to highlight our growing winter cycling community and celebrate how enjoyable cycling is in all seasons”, said Pierce Schwalb, Director of Bike Anchorage.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate what makes Anchorage such a great place to live and encourage people to use our beautiful trail system not just for recreation but as part of their daily lives, whether that’s biking to work, getting kids to school, or meeting friends for dinner.” said Cathy Janigo, Event Superintendent at the Anchorage Parks and Recreation Department.
Winter Bike to Work Day is made possible by a partnership between Bike Anchorage, treat station hosts, and the Anchorage Health Department.
