In a press release Tuesday, Cyrano’s Theatre Company said it is pleased to welcome Alaska Theatre of Youth (ATY) to Cyrano’s theater and gallery space located at 3800 Debarr Road in midtown Anchorage.
ATY, which uses performing arts education to teach area youth creative, collaborative, and performance skills, relocated to Cyrano’s to establish a consistent destination for the company’s auditions, rehearsals, classes and camps.
CTC Producing Artistic Director Teresa K. Pond said, “We are so pleased to share our space with a complementary performance and educational organization, that provides youth arts for the community. We are looking forward to an exciting future for both organizations, our artistic futures, and the community possibilities for Cyrano’s Building.”
ATY Executive Director Hannah Bankston said, “Relocating our operations to CTC affords both companies the opportunity to collaborate, create together, and share resources, which will enable ATY to better serve local students. At a time when local schools are facing difficult budget decisions, ATY’s performing arts curriculum is more vital than ever. Sharing space with CTC helps us fulfill our mission.”
ATY was established 34 years ago as an outreach program for troubled juveniles in McLaughlin Youth Center to use performing arts to help find a better path and has since broadened its mission to serve all youth using performance arts education to teach creative, collaborative, and performance skills. ATY is relocating in time for its Summer Conservatory Program. 2019-2020 season begins in September, for more information
